    Mar­tine Smit is Pro­fessor of Medi­cinal Chem­istry at the Fac­ulty of Sci­ence of the Free Uni­ver­sity of Ams­ter­dam. Her research focuses on medi­cinal chem­istry and the devel­op­ment of lig­ands and nanobod­ies in the field of receptor research/signal trans­duc­tion. After sci­entific activ­it­ies in Europe and the USA, the phar­ma­ceut­ical chem­ist has been Pro­fessor of Tar­get and Sys­tems Bio­chem­istry at the Vrije Uni­versiteit (VU) Ams­ter­dam since 2005. She has been awar­ded the Organon Award for Phar­ma­co­logy and the Galenus Research Prize. Mar­tine Smit has ini­ti­ated numer­ous national and inter­na­tional research pro­grammes, is involved in vari­ous pro­jects with the phar­ma­ceut­ical industry and cur­rently coordin­ates the European net­work pro­gramme “Onco­genic Receptor Net­work of Excel­lence and Training”.
