Martine Smit is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of the Free University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on medicinal chemistry and the development of ligands and nanobodies in the field of receptor research/signal transduction. After scientific activities in Europe and the USA, the pharmaceutical chemist has been Professor of Target and Systems Biochemistry at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam since 2005. She has been awarded the Organon Award for Pharmacology and the Galenus Research Prize. Martine Smit has initiated numerous national and international research programmes, is involved in various projects with the pharmaceutical industry and currently coordinates the European network programme “Oncogenic Receptor Network of Excellence and Training”.
